Bridal Fashion at Paris Haute Couture Week

Traditionally, couture show is ending with a glamorous white wedding gown which is the crown of the entire range but designers are now including more bridal outfits in their collections. Sometimes they present the looks in reversed order like Raf Simons did at his autumn/winter 2014/2015 couture show for Dior. His sleeveless white dresses with big skirts and no embellishments are giving a modern twist to 18th century frocks inspired by Marie Antoinette. Chanel collection also featured many different wedding dresses from short cocktail styles to puffed neoprene gown that closed the show.

One of the most eccentric wedding dresses at Paris couture week was Jean Paul Gaultier’s figure-hugging white dress with tulle cape in the shape of butterfly wings, while Atelier Versace showed some sexy asymmetrical white gowns with horizontal cuts and Zuhair Murad ended his show with yet another astonishing ball gown with gorgeous sparkly embellishments. Murad’s collection also includes beautiful column dresses in metallic shades, as well as elegant two-toned frocks. Combining two colours is a wonderful idea which we have also seen at Schiaparelli show, while Ulyana Sergeenko showed us a romantic fit-and-flare vintage wedding dress with plunging neckline and feathered accessories.

Valentino collection was inspired by Pre-Raphaelite painters and featured cape-sleeved white dresses paired with Roman sandals, but there were also a number of delicate tulle gowns with intricate embroidery, while Giambattista Valli used the same fabric for his opulent ombre dresses. Valli’s huge skirts can be removed after the ceremony leaving the bride in a more relaxed outfit for the reception.

Finally, Elie Saab created yet another breath-taking collection of flamboyant evening dresses and wedding gowns with intricate beadwork. From long-sleeved, cocktail-length white lace dresses to elaborate gowns in pink, blush, blue, champagne and gray, the collection is very versatile with different styles to suit every bride’s personal taste.
