Beauty Trends Straight From Sydney Fashion Week, As Directed By Napoleon Perdis

Good morning BD Brides!

Last week we saw all things fashion with Australian Fashion Week in town. We've got the behind-the-scenes scoop from Napoleon Perdis on the three top beauty trends emerging straight from Sydney Fashion Week.

Trend One: Couture Contouring

"This season I'm bringing back the contour! It’s one of my beauty signatures and the prominent beauty trend at the Alex Perry, Camilla and Marc, Ginger and Smart, Ellery, and Esber shows, a contour doesn't fight fashion so is fantastic for the runway (and reality!)," says Napoleon.

Don't confuse the couture contour for anything you've seen on a Kardashian... It's modern, chic and best of all, face-flattering! In fact, Napoleon likens a great contour to being like shapewear to the face – it should lift and define in all the right places, without being seen. Napoleon used his Colour Discs in Skinny Dip and Trench Coat on the cheeks and eyes to highlight and shade as well as The Ultimate Nude Palette to customise the right shade for each girl.

Pro Tip: Using a blush or contouring brush (Napoleon Perdis Chisel Blush Brush 22b), choose a colour 1-2 shades deeper than your natural skin tone, and start at the top of the ear and apply in sweeping motions down to the bottom of the cheek, under the cheekbone. To create symmetry, contour the temples and eyes with a smaller brush (Napoleon Perdis Sculpting Brush 10r) - it's important the temple contour is the same intensity as the cheek contour.

Trend Two: Luxe Skin

"Expensive looking skin is always a trend and while we have seen the rise of the matte, velvety complexion of late, this fashion week was all about the glow!"

Napoleon himself loves both, but there's something about a dewy sheen or perfectly placed highlight that is just so pretty, fresh, and youthful. For the Karla Spetic, Dion Lee, Toni Maticevski shows they have been trialling their upcoming Radiance-Boosting Primer and BBB Cream and they are really the unbeatable duo for that fab, fresh finish. You can do anything once you've perfected the base, it works with any beauty look. Perhaps just keep the shimmer on the eyes to a minimum.

Pro Tip: For a gorgeous highlight, try dabbing a shimmery loose eye shadow (Loose Eye Dust in Ice Storm) on the top of the cheek bone. Highlight the bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow and brow bone for consistency.

Trend Three: Lucite Lips

"I love a lip dripping in gloss! While it's not the most practical for every day, it does photograph fabulously and really reads on the runway."

For Dion Lee's show, he wanted to create consistency and symmetry with the gel gloss in the hair so Napoleon applied layers of his Lip Lacquer in Clearly Glam mixed with Luminous Lip Veil In The Flesh straight to the lip. We love the glossy skin, glossy lip combo they did for Dion, Camilla and Marc and Toni Maticevski, it's very polished... But the skin needs to be flawless. Looks incredible paired with a swipe of liner
and a lash."

Pro Tip: To get that really glossy finish, eradicate any natural pinkness by concealing the lip first and then applying layers of clear gloss over the top. Add a neutral shade to warm up the tone a little.
